Day 1- Laguna De Los Tres Hike
Laguna de los Tres- A 26km, 10 hour hike to get a close-up view of Mount Fitz Roy!
The views throughout our trek were stunning, with 360 degrees of beautiful landscapes and scenery.
We found the last kilometre of this hike really challenging- a continuous, steep climb gaining 400m in one intense, rocky and icy ascent! But the views and sense of achievement were definitely worth it!
Day 2- Saltos Waterfall
A shorter hike to stretch our legs after yesterday’s expedition.
Day 3- Lago del Desierto
We were really keen to get up close to some glaciers. Our day started with a 90-minute drive along the bumpiest dirt track we have ever encountered! After being thoroughly shaken around, we enjoyed a short but scenic boat trip across Lago del Desierto to a remote camp, where we set off on a 2km hike to Glacier Vespignani. With the sun shining down on us, we were treated to glorious views of the glacier, the surrounding mountains and the beautiful lake.
But we weren’t finished yet! We hiked another 2km trail to reach the stunning viewpoint overlooking Glacier Huemel. This trail took us through the forest, past cascading waterfalls and finally up a rocky section with ropes to help us climb. It was a bit of a scramble, but absolutely worth the effort.
The views from the top were simply breathtaking, especially the incredible bright blue waters of Laguna Huemel sitting right in front of the glacier. The contrast between the vivid blue lake, the icy glacier and the rugged mountains was amazing.
Both glaciers were spectacular, and despite spending a total of three hours being bounced around like we were in a washing machine on Patagonia’s gravel roads, we’d do it all again.
